Poetry Instead
As the news of the killing
In Pakistan spread
It took me by surprise
Have I won?
Has justice been made?
Would it help me to survive
Over fanatic Islam?
I have to admit that I love it
I will buy myself a deep sea bass
Hoping to ingest some
Of the beast's remains
But it will not change the fish's taste
I can hear the bell's ringing
All ready for the next blow
It will come unless new rules
Are sustained:
No more killing
And poetry instead.
